About The MUYFA Program
PURPOSE
The MUYFA provides a tremendous opportunity
for bigger children to learn, develop
and
play organized tackle football. We
focus
on 5th, 6th thru 8th graders so that they can have experience playing
football prior to going onto the high school
level of football. Most teams in the
league has a Varsity Team and a JV Team.
PHILOSOPHY
The MUYFA wants to provide every child to
have the opportunity to learn, develop and
play football no matter what their weight/size
may be. Children should not be discriminated
from playing football because of their weight/size.
PARTICIPANTS
All MUYFA players
must be between the ages of 10 thru 14. (No 15 year old)
They must be attending
middle school grades 5 thru 8. (No 9th graders)
No weight limits
to exclude any child from playing. The MUYFA started with 35 players
in 1995. This past season (2004) over 600 BIG GUYS playing football.
STRUCTURE
The MUYFA has a
2 tier format known as Varsity and Junior Varsity. The Varsity teams
include the more athletic, experienced and mature 7th & 8th grader.
When a MUYFA Varsity player goes into the 9th grade, he is able to compete
as a starter on most high school JV teams. Many players have made HS
varsity teams as freshman. The MUYFA JV player is a young, inexperienced
in football and athletics in general, 6th or 7th grader. The JV players
compete against other teams of their caliper. They play an 8 to 10 game schedule
to help them develop for playing at the Varsity level in seasons to
follow.
